Pfizer’s third dose reassures markets

The Spanish stock market, like the rest of the European markets, closed the session this Wednesday with losses, despite the breath of optimism that the news expressed by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer about the effectiveness of its third dose on the omicron variant of the covid-19. The values ​​of companies linked to tourism, such as Amadeus (-0,99%), Aena (-0,82%), IAG (-0.78%), also closed the session with losses, but smoothed the falls of the beginning of the day, after knowing the preliminary studies of Pfizer / BioNTech. The Meliá Hotels group reaped a 1.34% increase.

“The Pfizer news is fueling that more positive image that is being built around omicron,” Craig Erlam, Oanda’s senior market analyst, told Reuters. On the New York Stock Exchange, travel-related stocks also benefited from the news, with the airline index rising 3.7%, while Norwegian Cruise Line led gains among cruise ships.

The better weather did not prevent the falls at the close of the Ibex 35 (-0.93%) and the Paris stock exchanges (-0.72%), Frankfurt (-0.79%) and Milan (-1.41%) , while that of London ended practically flat (-0.08%). A barrel of Brent oil stood at a price of 75.75 dollars, after increasing 0.4%, while Texas stood at 72.41 dollars, after growing 0.5%.
