The autonomous company Railways of the Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), owned by the Government, operates several train routes in this community. In total, the company operates 140 kilometers of narrow gauge (1,000 mm), 42 km of standard gauge (1,435 mm) in the province of Barcelona and 89 km of Iberian gauge track (1,668 mm) in the province of Lleida and the Pyrenees , two rack railway and several funiculars.
The full-time gross annual salary is 33,745.42 euros gross per year proportional to the percentage of hiring, as recorded in the bases of the last call of the Catalan company. A Renfe driver charges between 20,000 to 55,000 euros per year.
However, union sources at the FGC have historically put a number of 9,000 euros per year the average remuneration that separates a train driver from Renfe and one from FGC. In addition, for those who provide service on the Lleida-La Pobla line, conditions lower than those of the main network apply.
These salary differences may be modified in Catalonia shortly, at least with regard to the Renfe Rodalies network. The Generalitat expects that in the short term, before summer, the central government will transfer all Rodalies powers to it (infrastructure and trains, which is pending). And if this is so, the salaries of train drivers from Rodalies and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya will also have to be equated.
