NIO ET5: the electric saloon that promises 1,000 km of autonomy to compete with the Tesla Model 3

On its NIO EV Day, the Asian company has presented the NIO ET5, an electric saloon that has already opened reservations for the Chinese market. This is NIO’s new sedan, after the ET7, also promising up to 1,000 kilometers of autonomy, almost double that of the Tesla Model 3 in its Great Autonomy version.

Regarding the propulsion system, the NIO ET5 has two engines, 150 kW at the front and 210 kW at the rear, adding a combined power of 480 hp, all with all-wheel drive. It promises a 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds.

There are three battery packs, the Standard with 75 kWh and 550 km of autonomy, the Long Range variant with a 100 kWh and 700 km battery, and the Ultra Long Range, with 150 kWh and 1,000 km of autonomy. Although these figures tend to stay at a lower mileage in normal conditions, they are higher figures (at least on paper) than those of the Model 3.

Nevertheless, there is a little trick with autonomy. These figures come under China’s CLTC cycle, which always offers better figures than the current WLTP by which we are governed in Europe. Despite this, the NIO figures, even equating them in WLTP, are more similar to those of a combustion car than an electric one.

Inside the NIO ET5 we find pure and simple minimalism. The center console is accompanied by a 10.2-inch screen that acts as a dashboard. In the same way, It has a Head-Up Display system to digitally project a 201-inch “panel” six meters from the car, displaying information about the environment in real time.

This vehicle will hit the market in March 2022, when its first deliveries will take place. According to the manufacturer is ready for level 3 autonomous driving and it will have an exchange price of just under 46,000 euros.
