The James Webb space telescope manages to deploy the antenna with which 60 GB of data will be sent every day

A great little milestone, but there are still a few more to go

The James Webb was launched on December 25 on an Ariane 5 rocket, and thanks to the official website of the project it is possible to continue your journey up to that point L2 where it will orbit to surprise us with a new perspective on our universe.

The mission control team was able to confirm the deployment and assembly of the antenna after a process that took about an hour.

This is an important critical milestone in a mission that still has a few months to start sending the first images. It will take 29 days in total to reach Lagrange Point 2, located 1.5 million kilometers from Earth., and throughout that time it will unfold, for example, its mirrors and then position itself.

You will not go to work as soon as you arrive: before that you will need to carry out numerous tests to calibrate both the mirrors and the optics as well as all the sensors that will help the James Webb to operate perfectly. That will take about six months, so we will still have to be patient before we see the first images captured by the space telescope.
