Cancellation with charges
The operator already activated this measure at the beginning of the pandemic and resulted in the return to travelers of a total of 2.57 million tickets with a value of 97.5 million euros, due to the declaration of the state of alarm and the restrictions on mobility derived from the health crisis.
However, this time, only the ticket change will be free, in case you want to cancel it there will be some linked charges corresponding to the ticket fare acquired. Only in the rate ‘Premium‘ it will be free cancellation, compared to the usual 5% surcharge. That is why Renfe recommends including the extra changes and / or cancellations, which works as insurance against unforeseen events, when purchasing a ‘Basic’ ticket. Another option that exists is to directly buy a ‘Choose’ or ‘Premium’ ticket, which already include more flexible exchanges and returns.
Due to the increase in infections, Renfe also has temporarily extended the expiration of multi-trip tickets Avant, Card Plus Card and Plus Card 10 until June 30, 2022. This measure was already activated in October 2020 and is now being redeemed again.
In addition, the company recalls that it maintains cleaning and disinfection procedures of all trains and that in addition, these have been recognized with the Aenor and SGS certificates against Covid-19 for passenger transport.
