Shanghai, the most populous city in China, is looking for ways to implement a metaverse in public services over the next five years.
The Shanghai Municipal Economic and Information Technology Commission’s Five-Year Electronic Information Industry Development Plan lists four fronts to explore, one of which is the metaverse.
According to a CNBC note, the document calls for the use of the metaverse to be promoted in public services, business offices, social entertainment, industrial manufacturing, production security and electronic games. The commission plans to encourage further study and development of underlying technologies, such as sensors, real-time interactions, and Blockchain technology.
