The price of electricity will give a little respite tomorrow, albeit minimal. For the first time in a long time, Spaniards will not have to get up early to save on the bill, as the cheapest section will be between 12 and 13 noon. On the contrary, the most expensive time will be between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Peak and valley hours

  • The cheapest: from 12 a.m. to 1 p.m. at € 0.14113 / kWh
  • The most expensive: from 9pm to 10pm at € 0.26811 / kWh

In the wholesale market, which directly influences the regulated tariff, the price will drop this Sunday, January 2, by 2.73% compared to the price of this Saturday, so that it will reach 136.97 euros per megawatt / hour (MWh), according to data published by the Iberian Market Operator of Energy (OMIE) collected by Europa Press.

With this decline, the wholesale market price chains three days of consecutive declines after the drop of almost 30% that has experienced this Friday.

By hourly sections, the minimum price of electricity for Sunday will be between 12 noon and 1 p.m., with € 103.70 / MWh, while the maximum, € 209.10 / MWh, will be registered between 10 p.m. and 1 p.m. 23 hours.

The reasons for the increase

The rise in recent months in the electricity market is mainly explained by the high gas prices in the markets and carbon dioxide emission rights (CO2), at all-time highs this year.

December began marked by great volatility, with falls in the average of some days to around € 100 / MWh and with certain spikes that far exceeded the 200 and € 300 / MWh level.
