Why is the price of electricity going up?
The increase in price in recent months in the electricity market is mainly explained by the high prices of electricity gas in the markets and carbon dioxide emission rights (CO2), at all-time highs this year.
Thus, compared to the same day just a year ago, the rise experienced this Monday is 221%, since on January 3, 2021 the price of electricity stood at € 46.93 / MWh.
The Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has ratified in 2021 until nine disqualifications for the exercise of the commercialization activity in the electricity market due to the breach of the advance of the guarantees necessary to participate in the wholesale market.
The last disabled companies have been Mi Eléctrica SL, On Demand Facilities, Vive Energía and Luvon, whose respective procedures were closed on December 31. Thus, Another Energy Option, Secom Central, Iberred Solutions, Tesla Management joined, which were notified of the confirmation of their disqualification between June and November.
All the clients of these companies have been transferred to a reference marketer, that is, to EDP, Endesa, Iberdrola, Grupo CHC, Naturgy, Repsol or Teramelcor.
It should be recalled that the rise in electricity prices has put risk of insolvency to multiple marketers, since they must present financial obligations in advance to guarantee that they will meet the amounts owed to the OMIE and REE.
